I’ve been down checking out the pontoon ready for the Teddy Bears Picnic!
You may be wondering why we are on the pontoon….it’s because we have some wonderful little creatures to show you that love living there! No, not the pelicans! Think smaller!
We are pretty fortunate to have such a lovely space to hang out by the water. These little creatures love to hang out there too and I can’t wait to check them out with you.
I am excited to be talking to kids about water bugs and getting down and having a good look at the important little creatures that we have living in our waterways that provide heaps of special roles that most of us don’t even know about. These macro-invertabrates are animals without a backbone that can be seen without a microscope or magnifying glass. These include all sorts of lovely insects, crustaceans, mites, molluscs and worms!
We will see what we can identify and learn more about what our birds or fish may be eating and gain a greater understanding of why we need to look after our waterways.
I have one small problem that I have to sort out before the Picnic….where is my teddy bear? Where on earth has he been hiding? I think that might be a prerequisite for attendance. Should he be dressed in waterbug theme of wearing his speedos. I’ll have to sort that out with him in the weeks ahead.
Please make sure that you are wearing your hat, sunscreen and have plenty of water, because chances are it is going to be a warm one. If it rains….we will just enjoy the rain!
The Teddy Bears Picnic will be held on Saturday, 19 October between 10am and 2pm at the Lions Park. There will also be some fantastic entertainment on the day. I hope to see you there.
I’ll be on or near the pontoon with the Central West Lachlan Landcare marquee to keep us cool while we check out our little waterbugs. Looking forward to seeing you there!
