Looking At Landcare (21/5/2026) – Additional Mental Health First Aid Course in August 2026

We will be running another Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course in Peak Hill.

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course will be run at the Peak Hill Bowling Club, with facilitator Phil Worrad from Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP).

This workshop is possible through the Peak Hill Building Healthy Communities Challenge (BHCC). Although we didn’t win the challenge between Gilgandra and Peak Hill, Western NSW Local Health District have awarded Peak Hill with an additional $1,000 to be used in the Peak Hill community, in line with the initiative.

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. This is now an internationally recognised course that remains current for three years.

You can send through an EOI to cwllandcare@gmail.com and we will advise you when the date and booking arrangements are finalised. We will have to cap the training at 15 people.

We have a Peak Hill Crop Swap planned for Saturday, 3 October. We hope to also have some training on jams and preserves on that day.

Through this project, we have seen the revitalisation of the Peak Hill Community Garden, instigation of Crop Swap, Propagation Workshops and increased engagement at the Garden.

Future opportunities also include the Challenge to Change and the Marang Dhali Eating Well Program as potential undertakings.

The Line Dancing has been a wonderful community undertaking, driven undertaking encouraging people to stay active during the cooler weather…and, importantly, also stay connected. Line Dancers will be continuing on a Monday evening from 5.30pm at the Peak Hill Bowling Club.

We know that Peak Hill will continue reaping rewards as a result of involvement in the Challenge and we look forward to seeing the progress in the years ahead, including with the Deadly Runners.

These initiatives….and much more, are possible with the support of the Peak Hill Building Healthy Communities Challenge, which is a challenge initiated by Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).

We have submitted an application for further support funding for health initiatives in Peak Hill and Trundle, so we are looking forward to finding out the outcome of those applications in the weeks ahead.
