Looking At Landcare (27/10/2022) – NPA Lachlan Valley Walks Scheduled for Summer

Hi Landcarer’s

Unfortunately, due to the weather, the National Parks Association Lachlan Valley Branch (NPA) walk scheduled as part of Bird Week for Sunday was postponed.

The walk will now be held on 19 November. Walkers are to meet at Lions Park, Orange Road, Parkes at 9am or at Bumberry Ridge rest area at 9.20am. This walk is a Medium, on track 6 kilometres with steep sections. Contact Walk Leader Martin Bell for further information on 0429 346 586.

A further two walks are scheduled for November, with the first being held on Wednesday, 9 November at Phil Young’s property ‘Avenue Range’ at Gunningbland. Walkers are to meet at Bushman’s Dam carpark on the corner of the Newell Highway and Thomas Street, Parkes at 9am. This is a 5 kilometre on and off-track walk on a rough track with some climbing. Contact walk leader Martin Bell on 0429 346 586.

On Wednesday, 30 November, walkers are headed to the lower section of the Nangar trail at Nangar National Park. Walkers are to meet at the Eugowra rest area at 9.30am (on the Escort Way at the creek bridge). This is a 5 kilometre, medium walk. 4WD is needed to get to the start of the track within the Park. Ride sharing will be available from Eugowra. Contact walk leader, Martin Bell on 0429 346 586.

The NPA Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday, 7 December. Venue to be announced.

BYO food and drink, sharing or eating your own is fine! Also, BYO chair, plates, and cutlery.

All walks are subject to weather restrictions, RFS fire warnings and any closure of the relevant NP or State Forest due to Hunting Permits, aerial pest control etc.

New walkers are always welcome! Walkers are reminded to bring along enough food and water for the entire day as well as suitable clothing, footwear, hat and sunscreen. A pair of good binoculars and a fold up chair for the post- walk cuppa is recommended.

For safety reasons, those walking stay together as a group. Please consider bringing a companion if for any reason you are unsure of your ability to complete the walk, so that you don’t return unaccompanied.

Our Biodiversity In Action workshops with Mikla Lewis are being held this week and I look forward to sharing those events next week.
