Looking At Landcare (29/10/2021) – Places still available in Mental Health First Aid Course

Hi Landcarers

We still have some spaces left for the Accredited Mental Health First Aid Course!

Bookings for this free course are available online. This is an opportunity for community members to gain accreditation in MHFA, which is recognised by many organisations as essential learning for staff.

With funding through Gotcha4Life, we are able to offer this course free to 12 members that are willing to commit to six hours of e-learning prior to the commencement of the facilitated sessions. This can be completed in the CWLL Office by arrangement.

This course normally costs between $150 – $300 to complete and we are able to offer it for free. Please get in quick to ensure that you have time to complete the lead up training. Contact me on 0418 611 053 if you have any queries.

The facilitated sessions will be held online in a group and will run between 9.30am and 12pm on 9 and 10 November. Participants also receive the Mental Health First Aid manual.

Facilitator Steven Gamble has been delivering programs through Man Anchor since 2017 to promote positive change in the way that health, and in particular, mental health is addressed. Man Anchor has grown into a movement that supports both male and female mental wellbeing through education and awareness, believing that through education and awareness programs they can empower the community to create positive change and a sustainable model to support the wellbeing of friends, family and the wider community.

Man Anchor are working to educate and empower the community to have tools to support their own wellbeing and that of the wider community. In Australia, one in five (20%) Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental illness in any year. 45% of Australians will live with a mental health disorder in their lifetime.

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to provide initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

Of course, this would not be possible without the support of our friends at Gotcha4Life!

Nine Australians take their own life every day. That is shocking! Gotcha4Life are working hard to help Australians build mental fitness.
