Hi Landcarers
Forecast rain has brought about changes to our National Bird Weed Walk with the Lachlan Valley Branch of the National Parks Association.
Note that this walk was cancelled due to the weather, but the NPA Group Christmas Party will be held at Bumberry Dam on 9 December. For further details, click the Walks Calendar Below.
This Sunday, 25 October, we will be heading to Bumberry Dam for an Easy, 4km walk. Walkers will meet at Lions Park in Parkes at 1.30pm. Please note that you need to contact walk leaders Liz and Graeme on 0455 915 989 the evening prior.
The beauty of heading to Bumberry is that we will have access to woodland and water birds.
Walkers are reminded to bring along enough food and water for the entire day as well as suitable clothing, footwear, a hat and sunscreen. A $2 donation is appreciated.
As promised last week, I have the ‘go to’ list for bird viewing in the Parkes and Forbes Shires, in consultation with the NPA Lachlan Valley Branch. Most of these spots are regularly visited by the group on their walks.
For woodland and water birds Bumberry and Endeavour Dams near Parkes, Gum Swamp and Gunning Gap Nature Reserve near Forbes. Obviously there are some fabulous little spots in town for some twitching including Lake Forbes and near the Wiradjuri Centre…and around Bushman’s Dam at Parkes.
Yes! There are other fabulous places in our local area, so join us on Sunday and find out more!
Have you been part of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count this week? There are still a couple of days to get involved if you haven’t already signed up.
Nearly 140 surveys had been submitted from the Parkes and Forbes Shires at the time of writing this weeks article (Thursday morning), so well done everyone!
The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is an activity for all-ages that involves observing and counting the birds that live near you – whether that’s in your garden, the local park, a beach or even your town centre.
For further information on the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, check out their website and download the app. The app has a handy field-guide to help you identify birds. 20 minutes a day is all it takes to contribute….it even has a timer for you on the app, so you can just take it all in.
By participating in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, you will be helping BirdLife Australia find out about the common species that live where people live.
