Hi Landcarer’s
We are thrilled to be part of some wonderful activities in the month ahead. We would love you to join us!
1 October marks the commencement of the Pink Up Parkes Campaign to raise funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurses. You may wonder why we have chosen to support a campaign that doesn’t seem very Landcare-ish…here’s the thing…our key focus areas are healthy landscapes, healthy people and healthy communities. Never has this been more important!
Many people between Parkes, Forbes, Condobolin to Peak Hill and areas in between have been fortunate to benefit from the services of our Nurse and we want to make sure that this continues.
We are really excited to be hosting a Landcare Walk and Wellness Morning on Saturday, 12 October in partnership with Parkes Shire Council. The planned walk with be 2km and our destination is PAC Park Waterwise Garden. Details on our starting point are still to be finalised so that we make sure that everyone is safe, so keep a track on our facebook page. We are planning that it will be in a central part of town and somewhere that we can have a fabulous photo taken before we launch….
When we arrive at the Garden we will have a beautiful breakfast (kindly sponsored by InLink and Edge Consulting) and face painting, chalk decorating and other activities, all tying in with a pink theme. We are offering two wellness activities after breakfast, both of which involve a movement session and a propagation station and gardening session in the Waterwise Garden. You can choose to be involved in either depending on what suits you…
We plan to have our bookings live on Monday. Bookings are essential.
I am also thrilled to be part of the upcoming Teddy Bears Picnic in Forbes. No worms this time…but, I am excited to be talking to kids about water bugs and getting down and having a good look at the important little creatures that we have living in our waterways that provide heaps of special roles that most of us don’t even know about.
The Teddy Bears Picnic will be held on Saturday, 19 October between 10am and 2pm at the Lions Park. There will also be some fantastic entertainment on the day. I hope to see you there.
For all of you keen fisher-people…did you know that on Sunday, 20 October it is Gone Fishing Day! The Lachlan Valley Fishing Club Inc are running a Carp-athon. You can sign up at the back of the Forbes Bowling Club from 9am. If you are interested in being involved all of the details are on their facebook page. You will need your own gear, but there are prizes up for grabs for lucky fisher-kids. Happy Fishing!
Last but not least, is our Annual General Meeting on Monday, 28 October at 6pm at the Forbes Services Club. We are very excited to welcome Guest Speaker Andrew Linnertson from Ananda Foods.
I can imagine you wondering what is so special about Ananda Food? Ananda Food is one of the largest Australian-owned hemp seed producers in Australia. They are one of the only commercial-scale producers of premium food-grade hemp gown in Australia.
In November 2017, legislation in Australia approved the use of hemp seed products as food. The company began growing industrial hemp in Tasmania and we are keen to talk about it, including production, with a local Forbes Shire landholder, also sharing his experience producing hemp in the past 12 months.
