Looking At Landcare (2/11/2018) – Our ‘Hidden Treasure’ steps down as Chair

Did you manage to get in a bird count last week as part of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count?

Over 90 checklists were submitted from the Parkes and Forbes Shire, sighting approximately 170 species. Go to the website and check it out!

Don’t forget that our AGM will be held at the CWLL Office at Kelly Reserve on Thursday, 8 November from 6pm. This is an opportunity to reflect on the previous 12 months and look to the future of Landcare in the Parkes and Forbes Shires.

Central West Lachlan Landcare are pleased to welcome Farm Manager, from CMOC-Northparkes Mines Matthew Burkitt as our Annual General Meeting guest speaker.

We are pleased to welcome Matt as our guest speaker and encourage locals to attend and find out about the background of the Mine Farm, what projects and trials they have been participating in and how they have managed through the past 12 months of drought.

CWLL are very fortunate to have the most amazing volunteers involved though their commitment to roles on our Committee. We have been fortunate to have two wonderful women in the role of Chair since I joined Landcare in 2011, with Margaret Haddin, (who is now our extremely capable Treasurer) and current chair, Margot Jolly.

The Committee have a commitment to succession planning and preparing the next generation of Landcarers to move through into new roles, with the assistance of predecessors and the support of the Committee. Margot will be handing over the role of Chair at our AGM next Thursday, but still remaining in a supporting role on the Committee (and for me). Margot has been was nominated as a 2018 Hidden Treasure – recognising rural women volunteers, which is a timely inclusion. We encourage diversity of Committee membership and are looking forward to acknowledging our volunteers and celebrating our successes at our AGM next week.

We look forward to catching up with those of you who have a long history with Landcare and welcome those new to Landcare as well. Landcare is for everyone! If you would like to join us and find out more about Landcare activities happening in the two shires and join us for light refreshments after the meeting, please RSVP to me on 02 6862 4914 or cwllpo@hotmail.com
