Looking At Landcare (9/11/2018) – Upcoming Landholder Events

Hi Landcarer’s

I’m still in shock that we are headed well into November. As much as I hate early Christmas decorations in the shops, I was fortunate enough to admire the Swarovski Christmas Tree in the Queen Victoria Building last Friday…and I was pretty grateful that they hadn’t held off!

I am looking forward to telling you about our new Committee next week, with some changes including our Chairperson Margot Jolly stepping down.

The Central West Local Land Services Ag Advisory Team will be travelling around the region to provide information and advice on managing your farm business over the summer months.
Topics covered at these sessions will include: seasonal outlook; soil health and management of bare ground; managing weeds on farm – existing weeds and new incursions; grazing and pasture recovery – finding the balance.

Information Sessions will be held as follows: Monday 12 November at Condobolin Railway Hotel Motel, 46 Molong Street, between 4 – 6pm; Tuesday 13 November at Peak Hill Services Club, 57-61 Caswell Street, between 10am – 12pm; Wellington Cow and Calf Hotel at 135 Lee Street between 4 – 6pm; Wednesday 14 November at Mendooran Bowling Club, 43 Bandulla Street between 10am – 12pm at Coonamble RSL, 18 Castlereagh Street between 4 – 6pm; Thursday 15 November at
Nyngan RSL & Civic Club, 106 Pangee Street between 10am – 12pm.

Refreshments will be provided after each session. RSVP to Neroli Brennan on 0428 692 713 or neroli.brennan@lls.nsw.gov.au

Can’t make these times or locations? No worries, give the LLS a call on 1300 795 299 or drop in to your local office and they will connect you with the advice you need.

Two more Biodiversity Conservation Trust Lachlan Corridor Conservation Tender Information sessions are to be held in our area. In Forbes on Thursday, 15 November between 12.30pm – 2.30pm at the Forbes Services Memorial Club. At Condobolin in the Blue Room at the RSL on Wednesday, 14 November between 6pm – 8pm.

Staff from the BCT will be providing an overview of who they are, what Conservation Tenders are, who is eligible and the process to take part. Registration can be made via Eventbrite or call Denise Allen on 6365 7770 or Denise.A.Allen@bct.nsw.gov.au.

I must mention what a pleasure it was to work with Years 1 and 2 at Parkes Christian School last week, looking at the differences between natural, constructed and managed places. Obviously we, as adults can clearly understand the differences between natural and constructed, but when you start thinking about these spaces in our communities you realise how much we have actually altered the spaces that we live in and gain a greater appreciation for the need to other structures to be put in place to manage the changes that we have made. It is always fantastic to be teaching and learning from students and taking home some of their enthusiasm.

Lastly this week I must mention that our latest newsletter was distributed this week. If you would like to receive a copy, please just go to our website and click the links to registration. We usually try to include any events that are relevant to landholders or urban Landcarers and an overview of the upcoming National Parks Association walks.

For more information on any of these events, go to our website at centralwestlachlanlandcare.org, facebook, twitter or Instagram @cwllandcare. To register or for further information on any of the events above, please feel free to contact our office on 02 6862 4914 or cwllpo@hotmail.com and we will be happy to provide further information.

 Until next week, happy Landcaring!
