Looking At Landcare (22/1/2021) – Glossy Black Field Trip with Guest Presenter Warren Chad

Hi Landcarers

Central West Lachlan Landcare are thrilled to welcome back Warren Chad as presenter at our field trip on 24 March.

Many of you will remember Chaddy, who shared some of his amazing photography and resources with us back in 2019. I can’t believe it was that long ago!

With support from the Local Land Services, through the Making Central Inland Glossies Great Again project, we are looking forward to hosting a Get to know the Glossy Black Cockatoo workshop in Parkes.

This Free workshop is funded by the NSW Government’s Saving our Species program and the NSW Environmental Trust and with the support of Parkes Shire Council and the Lachlan Valley Branch of the National Parks Association.

The day will commence at 9am, with a presentation from Chaddy, an overview of the Glossy Black project from Local Land Services staff and then we will head out to Lake Metcalfe to talk further about Glossy Black habitat, undertake some bird observation and a bird count and finish up around 1pm with BYO lunch at Lake Metcalfe.

Warren grew up on a small farm near Quirindi in Central Northern NSW. It was there, as a small boy that he developed an interest and appreciation of nature. Like many of us, an episode of In The Wild with Harry Butler was never missed on ABC TV.

In 1983 he moved to Condobolin and was employed at a local fish farm breeding native fish. Since then he has spent time working with the local Rural Lands Protection Board and since 1995 has been self employed in the building industry.

In 1985 he obtained his first Field Guide of Australian birds and through the years his love of nature has evolved into what is now a bit of an obsession. That obsession now sees him spending untold hours in the bush with only his camera and dog for company.

Note that this is a COVID Safe event and bookings are essential. There will be no walk-ins accepted on the day. I know! This sounds tough, but the reality that we are working with now and as a small organisation, we have to work hard to make sure that we are following current NSW Government guidelines and keeping everyone safe.
