On Saturday, 6 October, we are working with Parkes Shire Council to hold our next Landcare Motley Crew events….yes, there are two! The first is for the early birds at 7am in the Waterwise Garden via Welcome Street. We will be completing follow up work from our planting day that was made possible with funding from the NorthParkes Community Investment Program. This is basically a ‘power hour’ to get you pumping for the day!

At 9am we will be working at the East Street end of PAC Park on Council’s wetland plantings. Please feel free to bring coffee and snacks….anything to keep you going! This will be another ‘power hour’ around the wetland area. RSVP to me. Contacts below.

On Sunday, 7 October, the National Parks Association will be hosting a walk to Peregrine’s Track at Weddin National Park. This walk will take the Euraldrie Walking Track from Holy Camp (Peregrine’s Lookout and the Trig). Walkers are to meet at the Forbes Railway Station at 0900. This is rated as a hard 7km walk and walkers need to contact walk leader, Peter Cannon on 6866 1225.

On 17 and 18 October, we are working with Topsoil Organics and Soil Land Food in Forbes and are pleased to have presenter and soil scientist, David Hardwick speaking at the Compost as a Catalyst for Cropping Field Day, with demonstrative machinery, and talking about soil conditioning and soil health.

We will be participating in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count between 22 and 28 October. The week will kick off in conjunction with Parkes Shire Council at the East Street end of PAC Park with Breakfast with the Birds, assisted by the National Parks Association. This will also be an opportunity to officially unveil new seating in the area. More information next week!

On Monday and Tuesday, 22 and 23 October we will be holding kindy Enviro Days for Parkes Shire schools with a focus on catchments, water bugs and birds, water quality, and seedlings

Wednesday will be a walk along Goobang Creek with the National Parks Association, utilising the fantastic resource of bird enthusiasts that we have in the Parkes and Forbes Shires. Walkers are to meet at Lions Park in Parkes at 0900. This is a 6km Medium rated walk (average fitness level). Walkers are to contact walk leader, Martin Bell on 0429 346 586 the evening before the walk.

Thursday, 25 October, will be an opportunity for local school students to join us after they finish school at 3.30pm at the Wiradjuri Cultural Centre for a bird walk and activities. We will be spotting woodland and water birds and checking out the habitats that they live in.

On Friday, 26 October, we will be holding a children’s bird walk commencing at Bushman’s Dan (Kelly Reserve) and walking through to Bushman’s Hill, also covering off on woodland and water birds.

Both children’s walks require parental/adult participation.
