Last chance to book in for the Compost on the Farm Workshop!
A series of workshops have been running in the Central West area presenting information on the benefits of using compost on grazing and cropping systems. Central West Lachlan Landcare have the opportunity to be involved in the Compost On The Farm workshop next week at Bedgerabong Hall on Tuesday, 23 August. Please RSVP to me for catering purposes. Morning tea lunch lunch included.
This free workshop is possible through the Waste Less, Recycle More program funded by the NSW waste levy through the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
We are offering attendees free or discounted microbial soil testing if they take up the discount compost offer that is being offered to participants. ANL supply a trial sized amount to attendees for free and offer 25% discount to landholders who would like to apply a larger amount to their properties.
We hope that by completing microbial soil testing, we can help you to better understand the benefits from a scientific point of view, not just by seeing increased production.
Through this program you will learn more about using compost on your property and have the opportunity to talk with industry experts, compost producers, rural advisors and farmers who are already using compost.
In addition to speakers from ANL and MRA Consulting, who will be talking about compost quality, application methods, ratios etc, local landholder, Darren Collier will be showing us the results of using the compost on his property.
Following on from this workshop, CWLL will be starting the Rebalancing our Landscapes (ROL) program. For members who join our ROL group, we will also be offering free or discounted offers and opportunities to work towards improving farm balance.
The Cookamidgera Community and Landcare group will be holding their AGM at the Cookamidgera Church Hall at 7pm sharp on Monday, 22 August. If you live in the Cooka area, come and support your community. For more details, please ring Clive Hawken on 6866 1229
This meeting isn’t just a chance to go through the AGM process to keep the group registered, it is an opportunity to hear what has been happening over the past 12 months, and a chance to discuss future plans for Landcare in the Cookamidgera area. I’m looking forward to it!
The next National Parks Association (NPA) walk will be held on Wednesday, 31 August at Black Range, West Cookies Plains National Park. Walkers are to meet at Bushman’s Dam at 0900.
If you are intending to walk, please contact Peter Canon on 02 6866 1225 the evening before the walk.
All walks are subject to there being no adverse RFS fire warnings at the time and no closure of the relevant State Forest due to Hunting Permits etc.
Walkers are reminded to bring along enough food and water for the entire day as well as suitable clothing, footwear, hat and sunscreen. A pair of good binoculars and a fold up chair is recommended. A $2.00 donation for each walker is appreciated.
With the considerable rain that we have had over the past couple of months, you may have noticed some amazing fungal growths (hopefully, not between your toes). We have some fantastic photos that we are sharing on facebook. If you have been out somewhere and a particular growth has taken your eye. Share it with us!
As usual, links to items in this article are available on facebook or on our website at centralwestlachlanlandcare.org and I can be contacted at our office on 02 6862 4914 or email me at cwllpo@hotmail.com
Until next week, happy Landcaring!
