Looking At Landcare – 3/6/2016

We were fortunate to host the Central West Natural Resource Management Group meeting on Monday this week which brought all of our co-ordinators and other NRM representatives together to talk about new undertakings and what is happening in our areas of the Central West.

The Forbes Food Revolution last weekend was fantastic! Even though the weather was a bit dodgy the crowds still showed up and took in the wonderful produce and events on the day. Well Done FFR team!

The Central West Local Land Services have got several workshops in Forbes, Garema, Trundle, Peak Hill and Cookamidgera, starting with an Introduction to Prograze course which is run over two days and has a focus on the essentials of grazing management, improving groundcover and livestock production. This will be held over two days on Tuesday, 14 June and Tuesday 21 June at the Forbes Memorial Club. For more information you can contact Chris Robinson on 0447 636 129 or email chris.robinson@lls.nsw.gov.au

There will be Soil Pits and Kits workshops held at Garema on the 14th of June, Trundle on the 15th of June, Peak Hill on 16 June and Cookamidgera on 17 June. These workshops are targeted at people who are looking to learn more about soil health. For more information contact Stephen Pereira on 0409 814 182 or to register book in with Chris Robinson listed above.

Last but not least – do you want your legumes to work harder and improve your soil health? The workshop, ‘Getting legumes to work harder’ will be held on Wednesday, 15 June at the Forbes Services Memorial Club on Wednesday, 15 June. If you have a query about the workshop, please contact Belinda Hackney on 0438 358 819. To register, give Chris a call or email as already mentioned. Chris is going to be a busy fellow.

Unfortunately we have had to postpone the Back to Bulgandramine Cultural Festival on 4 and 5 June, I shouldn’t have mentioned how good the forecast was looking. We could end up with over 40ml. We have postponed the event until 18 and 19 June. Saturday will be packed with entertainment. If you are interested in heading out on Saturday, Sunday or camping out, contact Karryn Keen on 0407 162 799.

This weekend will be held to celebrate National Reconciliation Week and as well as celebrating our local Wiradjuri culture, we will also have many other groups contributing their singing, dancing and cooking skills on the weekend.

On Sunday, we will have a church service commencing at 9am, to bring the weekend to a close with morning tea. The Bulgandramine Mission site is approximately 22km west of Peak Hill. We have a bus heading from Parkes at 8.30am and returning at 5.30pm. You will need to book with me to ensure that you have a spot on the bus on 6862 4914. Please don’t leave it too late.

If you require any further information regarding anything in this column please feel free to contact me on 02 6862 4914 or email cwllpo@hotmail.com

Until next week, happy Landcaring!
