Looking At Landcare (20/7/2023) – Forbes Men’s Shed Working With Landcare to Distribute Bird Boxes to Schools

Hi Landcarer’s

In partnership with Forbes Men’s Shed, Central West Lachlan Landcare are looking forward to delivering bird boxes to local schools across the Parkes and Forbes Shires.

In the lead up to National Tree Day activities on 29 and 30 July and during the following weeks, leading into Landcare week between 7 – 13 August, we will be distributing boxes and understory tubestock.

In partnership with Forbes Shire Council, Forbes National Tree Day will be held on Saturday, 29 July from 10am at the new BMX track.

Plantings won’t be guarded because they will be in a flood zone and will compliment existing Lakeside native habitat.

Parkes National Tree Day will be held on Sunday, 30 July at Akuna Road, near the newly established Akuna Wetland in partnership with Parkes Shire Council.

Our plantings work in with the naturally occurring Fuzzy Box species that occur in the area surrounding Akuna Road. The morning will also include an overview of the plan for Akuna Wetland site.

We kick off at 10am on both days and we will be cranking up the barbecue for lunch, so we would really appreciate registrations via the Planet Ark website.

National Tree Day is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, plant a tree or shrub, create some memories and meet new people….and catch up with old friends!

Established in 1996, National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.

Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them. Since 1996, over 26 million trees have been planted around the country by over six million volunteers.

Please note that both sites are near water and adult supervision for children is crucial at all times.

Please make sure that you take the time to register. Sturdy shoes, water and a hat/beanie are recommended. All attendees are required to sign in on the day at the CWLL marquee. We will have free merchandise courtesy of Toyota to share on the day. Further details are on the Planet Ark website.

If you can’t register online, drop me a line on 0418 611 053.
