Looking At Landcare (28/3/2024) – Graham Ross Delights Landcare Crowds in the Central West

Central West Lachlan Landcare and Forbes Riverside Community Garden welcomed horticulturist and gardening presenter Graham Ross AM to Forbes this week.

The morning kicked off with a delicious breakfast provided by the Forbes Community Riverside Garden. 60 attendees then enjoyed presentations from the Forbes SES and Parkes RFS.

Rocky Walshaw from Forbes SES and David Hodges from Parkes RFS provided information on emergency preparedness and provided practical solutions and preventative measures to prepare for extreme weather conditions.

We thank them for giving up their time to provide this important information to our workshop attendees.

We were also fortunate to be able to check out the beautiful gardens that are the source of much fresh produce for Forbes residents.

Graham Ross AM, who is no stranger to many of us who have watched Better Homes & Gardens TV show, shared his gardening knowledge with attendees and answered questions galore.

This workshop was part of two days of workshops in Dunedoo, Forbes and Grenfell that had a focus on preparedness for extreme weather conditions, with each event shaped to meet the needs of the community.

Landcare NSW’s People Led Prevention project empowers communities across regional NSW in developing disaster resilience and preparedness skills. The Disaster Risk Reduction Fund is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.

The People Led Prevention project focuses on behaviour change for natural hazard risk reduction. We are so thrilled to be able to consolidate our emergency service providers into one space to provide information to the community, planning options and increase disaster resilience and community connectivity.

These events tie in with the two successful events held at Homegrown Parkes, with the Parkes SES and Parkes RFS and Sally Bourne Landscaping. The Homegrown event wrap up will be forthcoming after in the weeks ahead.

It has been a busy month for Central West Lachlan Landcare and our communities and there is heaps more to come in 2024….

Our Homegrown Parkes event surveys for stallholders and the community are now available. Community feedback assists us to plan for future events, not just Homegrown Parkes. There are sometimes suggestions that may not fit within the Homegrown framework, but can be provided thought another type of event. Fill in the Homegrown Parkes survey here.
